We chatted to London based fashion consultant Laura Vidrequin about her journey and about her perspective on fashion and jewellery...

How did your journey as a fashion consultant begin?

I have been in the fashion industry since forever, my first job was in retail, growing up in Paris and with very creative parents – they always guided me to follow my instinct, while being safe and solid doing so. I loved fashion, was spending my weekends creating moodboards, studying the history of fashion and therefore, quickly started to work on weekends, I was eager to engage with the products up close. Fast forward I graduated from a fashion business school, and flew to NY for a first official job – what was supposed to be 6 months ended up counting for 10 years of my life. Being a buyer for Moda Operandi, a merchandiser for Ralph Lauren, a stylist for Bazaar, I learnt so much from the industry and its many behind the scene aspects. More recently I was buying at Net a Porter and Harvey Nichols – Post pandemic, I decided I wanted to stay as close to trends and the products as possible, and being close to brands is the best way possible to do so. I love connecting with brands, chatting about their challenges and finding tangible solutions tailored to their image.

Who inspires you in the fashion industry?

Women who are assertive, know their value, goals and objectives. Talents who have personal boundaries, are kind, and understand that inspiration is everywhere. The ones that remain curious, and are aware that there is always room to learn.

How do you style your jewellery?

I am on the go, most of the time my jewellery doesn't change much, I love stacking earrings.

What is your go-to colour palette?

Earth tone paired with gold or silver. I like beads in general too, which I love pairing with gold chains.

I have many, each piece I own tells a story, and holds a memory. The first tiffany bracelet I received for my 15th birthday, the gourmette I got for my second son's birthday, with his name engraved. Or my mother's bracelet, she had herself received from my dad when they had me.

Definitely both - I would not be able to wear something I cannot love, and therefore, I need to feel something towards the piece to wear it - even if it is custom jewellery or simply aesthetic led.

What are your favourite spots in London and how does London's fashion scene influence your work?

Interestingly enough, it is a lot of museums, galleries, restaurants, movies and libraries which inspire what I do. The fashion scene in London is interesting the most in the street. My neighbourhood is the one that inspires me the most, as well as East London which I find very surprising in its mix of style.

How do you approach styling jewellery for different occasions? (casual outings versus formal events).

I really enjoy styling jewellery for day time, I am a bit more discrete with evening pieces, because I do believe that outfitting is usually strong enough. I love watches and I think they have enough power to dress up or down an outfit.

How do you manage your responsibilities as a mother with the demands of your career?

I listen to my gut feeling, which I trust a lot, when it comes to priority. I make sure to use my time wisely; I am very fortunate to have help to support my work travels and meetings.

If you could design a piece of jewellery that embodies your personality, what would it look like?

A watch.

Do you have any New Year's resolutions?

Be more present - that will be the only one.

What trips do you have planned for 2025?

I am going back to Morocco, which I love going to - A lot of ski, and hopefully a family adventure to explore the world and different grounds.

What are you most excited for this winter?

Being able to cozy up, focus on spending time with family and close friends, travel to the mountains too.

Where are you living in the world?

I live in London.

What’s your star-sign?

I am a pisces, rising libra.

Favourite genre of music right now?

I love classical music, as well as all of the ones that I listen to during yoga classes.

Favourite time of day? - Sunrise, sunset, or midnight?

Sunrise - our home is full of early risers, I find it extremely powerful to wake up and have intentions set—while brushing my teeth, don't have much more time than that to write them down. I also am so grateful to do breakfast with the kids in the morning.

Slowly I am finding myself a rythm, between the travels, the kids, the house and work. And I won't put any expectations on myself, except for finding a place where I am content of each one of my life's pillars.
